Wagah is a small village located near the road of Amritsar (India) and Lahore (Pakistan). Wagah Border is the border between India and Pakistan.
How to Reach Wagah Border?
The closest city to Wagah Border is Amritsar. You can reach Amritsar through Railway, Roadway or Airway. You can plan your Amritsar Schedule according to mine in which I covered entire Amritsar in One day. Wagah Border is about 29 km away from Amritsar. You can grab a private cab, local rickshaw or a local bus to reach Wagah Border. Usually from Amritsar city’s center, ie. Queens Road, a rickshaw will take around Rs. 500-600(one time), and a cab will take around Rs. 1,000-1,200 (one time), depending on your haggling skills.
If you are an Indian, A rickshaw (local transport) will straight away ask you for Rs. 1,000, make sure you bargain as much as possible. And if you are a Foreigner, they could even ask you for Rs. 3000. Make sure you don’t pay more than Rs. 600.
Wagah Border Ceremony Timings:
The ceremony parade starts by 5:15 PM in summer and 4:15 PM in winter. But its always adviced to reach the border by 2.30ish because the seats are limited and distributed on ‘first come first serve basis.’ So reach here early and get seated on the seat with the best view.
Ticket Price for Wagah Border:
Well, there is no ticket price for Wagah Border. It’s totally free of cost and as I said before seats are given on a first come first serve basis.
Rules to Follow Before Entering Wagah Border
You are strictly not allowed to carry any type of bags, not even the camera bag. You can find local lockers on the streets where you can keep all your bags. They are kinda safe. But its always better to keep your bags in the hotels.
Although bags are not allowed, you can carry your phones, camera, and wallet.
‘The Not Allowed List’ says that no Food is allowed inside, but I saw people taking chips and other edibles inside so I guess you can carry them too. You can also buy overpriced ice creams, drinks, and chips sold by authorized vendors there.
Getting Back to Amritsar
You can catch a local bus that will drop you at Queen’s Road, Amritsar for just around Rs.50. To get the bus walk to the place where the Rickshaw dropped you before or ask any local for the bus station. Make sure to confirm the bus driver that the bus goes to Queen’s Road, Amritsar.
